What does it mean to believe in Jesus as John 3:16 states? History records there was a Jesus who was crucified by the Romans. Is it only the historical facts that we must believe to be true? The following are some scriptures that reflect on what being a believer entails.
Acts 4:11-12 Amplified Bible
11 This Jesus is the stone which was despised and rejected by you, the builders, but which became the chief Cornerstone. 12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among people by which we must be saved [for God has provided the world no alternative for salvation].”
Romans 10:9-11 New Century Version
9 If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we declare with our mouths that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.
To become a Christian, the bar is set deliberately low. It doesn’t depend on how good you are, how much you know, or your social standing. People from any background or walk of life can claim the salvation of Jesus as their own. What’s your background? Can you look back and see how God has guided you at different times in your life? Why not note them down as you thank him for his providence.
