Lesson 3

Believing 1 Peter 3:18-20 teaches Jesus was spiritually alive as a disembodied soul, and only physically dead after his crucifixion, can lead to Biblical contradictions as that belief requires a redefinition of death. The Bible defines the dead, as knowing nothing, unaware of what the living are doing. Their love, hatred and envy are gone and it is as if they are asleep, or unconscious. God the Father has always been alive and has never taken a human form. Jesus was alive as the Word before he became human. Remaining alive, he was born to Marry, demonstrating life does not depend on a physical body. When Jesus died and came back to life 3 days and nights later, it was not his physical form that gave him life, it was his consciousness that made him alive. When we have any level of consciousness it cannot be said we are dead, but living with a physically handycap. Why would Paul instruct the living to strive for immortality and eternal life if humans already had an immortal soul? Are God’s gifts, things we already have? Do you have to be alive to be held in contempt? What do the dead awake from, if they don’t lose consciousness when they die?
