Lesson 29

When the rest of the dead are resurrected, they will be resurrected into mortal bodies. God gave Ezekiel a vision of Israel being brought back to life in mankind’s second mass resurrection. At the end of their second lifetimes, when Satan is released, they are tested to see if they will follow Satan or God. As with the angels, God will not force any sentient being to follow him. Love will only develop from free choice. Before God gives humans the free gift of eternal life they need to willingly accept Jesus as their savior. Humans will have to give up control of their lives and let God and his love take over by completely displacing their desires with God’s. Those who want to pursue their own desires rather than God’s are free to make that choice. God will only live with love, for only true love will last and not turn into sin. God is not willing to lose anyone who would follow him. Providing mankind an opportunity to accept Jesus will maximize his sacrifice and produce the most children of God. Those who decide to follow Satan will have made their own free choice to not receive eternal life. Paying the ultimate price they are destroyed by fire. Never again to be resurrected they will remain dead for the rest of eternity. How do people gain the free gift of eternal life? Is there more than one way? Is God’s gift to us something we already have? Is God’s gift eternal bliss, or eternal life? What is the opposite of life?

Ezekiel 37:1, 3-6, 8-9, 11-14 New International Reader’s Version
1 The power of the Lord came on me. His Spirit brought me away from my home. He put me down in the middle of a valley. It was full of bones. 3 The Lord asked me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” I said, “Lord and King, you are the only one who knows.” 4 Then he said to me, “Prophesy to these bones. Tell them, ‘Dry bones, listen to the Lord’s message. 5 The Lord and King speaks to you. He says, “I will put breath in you. Then you will come to life again. 6 I will attach tendons to you. I will put flesh on you. I will cover you with skin. So I will put breath in you. And you will come to life again. Then you will know that I am the Lord.” ’ ”  8 I saw tendons and flesh appear on them. Skin covered them. But there was no breath in them. 9 Then the Lord said to me, “Prophesy to the breath. Prophesy, son of man. Tell it, ‘The Lord and King says, “Breath, come from all four directions. Go into these people who have been killed. Then they can live.” ’ ” 11 Then the Lord said to me, “Son of man, these bones stand for all the people of Israel. The people say, ‘Our bones are dried up. We’ve lost all hope. We are destroyed.’ 12 So prophesy. Tell them, ‘The Lord and King says, “My people, I am going to open up your graves. I am going to bring you out of them. I will take you back to the land of Israel. 14 I will put my Spirit in you. And you will live again. I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I have spoken. I have done it,” announces the Lord.’ ”
