Lesson 17

Although the Bible doesn’t say exactly how long the second resurrection period will last, it gives us two hints. The child will live to be a hundred years old and the sinner who lives a hundred years will be cursed. Secondly, Satan is released for a short time after the first millenium, ruled by Jesus, is completed. Depending on how long a little while is, the second resurrection period will last just over a hundred years.

Isaiah 65:20 Darby Translation
20 There shall be no more thenceforth an infant of days, nor an old man that hath not completed his days; for the youth shall die a hundred years old, and the sinner being a hundred years old shall be accursed.
Revelation 20:3 New Living Translation
3 The angel threw him into the bottomless pit, which he then shut and locked so Satan could not deceive the nations anymore until the thousand years were finished. Afterward he must be released for a little while.

We know those in the second resurrection, after the thousand years, include not only Israelites but people from other backgrounds as well. This is demonstrated by those who are influenced by Satan to rebel against the second resurrection’s saints.

Revelation 20:7-9 The Voice
7 When the 1,000 years are completed, Satan will be released from his prison. 8 And he will crawl out of the abyss in order to deceive the nations located at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog as Ezekiel described them, in order to rally them together for one final battle. They are in number as the grains of sand on the shore. 9 They marched in unholy array over the expanse of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city. As they laid siege to the city, fire rained down from heaven and incinerated them.

After living a lifetime in a world governed by Jesus, free from the pull of Satan, it appears as though a great many people decide to rebel against God and his way of love. The pull of sin proved too strong for them to resist. In what ways does this rebellion mirror Satan and the angels fall from heaven? Should we be surprised by the number of people who ultimately reject God? Does the Bible give us any clues about how many angels rejected God after living with him in heaven? Can you find Bible verses to support your beliefs?
