Lesson 11

Where would our Berean mentors start to prove that Paul was telling them the truth? They may have gleaned wisdom from their priests, but the Bible describes from where they mainly found their answers.

Acts 17:11 New International Version

11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

As the Bible tells us, God’s word is truth. The Bereans examined the scriptures. That should be where we turn in order to get a clear picture of what God reveals to us. God hasn’t made his wisdom easy to find. He has hidden his wisdom so his truths can be hard to find. Like nuggets of gold hidden in gravel, we will need to sift through the Bible in order to find them. Even Jesus used parables to teach Godly wisdom so that not all would understand.

Isaiah 28:9-13 King James Version

9 Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.

10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

13 But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

Matthew 13:13 Good News Translation

13 The reason I use parables in talking to them is that they look, but do not see, and they listen, but do not hear or understand.

Why do you think the truths of God would be obscured? Is it God’s plan that all people

should know about Jesus now, during this life? What happens to people who never find the hidden truth about Jesus? Jot down your thoughts.
